So your gun could be called a "Uberti 1873 revolver imported by Iver Johnson". Where a better model name exists, use it rather then the general "singe action revolver." Sometimes they use the design year for cowboy era guns, as the manufacturer (Colt and WInchester, later S&W used the year designation pretty heavily).īut SAA is the Colt Single Action Army, which would very specifically apply to the First Model Colt with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, a little more loosely to include the first model 5 1/2 inch "artillery" that had been shortened, and more loosely still to any Colt model single action revolver, but usually never to the adjustable sight models (those were Colt New Frontier), nor to the Bisley version of single action revolvers. Folks talking about their guns in SASS usually look for the model name that is on the gun and use that.
